Ashleigh Buhai is a South African professional golfer. Buhai had a brilliant amateur career. She was the first player in 101 years to win the Ladies South African Open title three times, and she set a record for being the youngest player to win the ladies’ South African Amateur Stroke Play and Match Play double.
While she was still an amateur, she competed in the Women’s World Cup of Golf three times for her country, which is a primarily professional event.
The next day after she turned 18, Buhai began her career as a professional. The Catalonia Ladies Masters, which she competed in for the third time as a professional in 2007, was her first victory.
She became the youngest ever champion on the Ladies European Tour (Amy Yang of South Korea won the 2006 ANZ Ladies Masters when she was younger but she did so as an amateur).

Ashleigh Buhai won her first major championship on Sunday at the Women’s Open held at Muirfield in Scotland. The victory came after four holes of sudden-death playoff play.
By becoming only the second South African woman to ever win a major tournament, Buhai etched her name in the annals of South African sporting history.
Sally Little, a Golf Hall of Famer, is the only other South African woman to win a major championship. She did so in 1980 when she won the Women’s PGA Championship. Additionally, in 1988, Little was victorious in the Du Maurier Classic, which was a women’s Major from 1979 to the year 2000.
