Samoan defensive tackle Tanielu “Daniel” Ekuale plays in the National Football League for the New England Patriots. He is 1.91 m tall and 136 kg in weight. The Nuuuli Vocational Technical High School was where he studied. Most recruiting organizations in American Samoa rated him as the top college prospect in his class, and he chose to accept an offer to play college football at Washington State University over offers from other universities.
He spent five seasons as a Washington State Cougars football player at Washington State University, redshirting his true freshman year. Despite wearing a redshirt his junior year, he started at nose tackle for the Cougars and finished with a career-high 23 tackles and a sack.
He made 71 total tackles during his college career, along with three sacks and two forced fumbles. In May 2018, he agreed to terms with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent. At the conclusion of training camp, he was released, but in September 2018, the Browns re-signed him to their practice squad. In September 2020, the Browns released him.
That same month, he was added to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad. His release from the Jaguars occurred in August 2021. He was added to the practice squad by the New England Patriots in September 2021. He was promoted to the 53-man roster a few occasions but spent the entire 2021 regular season on the Patriots’ practice squad. The first two games of the 2022 season were missed by him.
