Corey Damon Davis is famous for being a wide receiver for the New York Jets of the National Football League. While playing college football at Western Michigan, he racked up an unprecedented number of career receiving yards in NCAA Division I FBS. The Tennessee Titans selected him with the fifth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Davis was the second-to-last of seven siblings and a graduate of Wheaton, Illinois’ Wheaton Warrenville South High School. He joined his elder brother Titus Davis on the varsity as a sophomore, and Titus went on to set CMU records for receptions, touchdowns, and all-purpose yards as a senior.
In 2010, the Tigers went 14-0 and won the Illinois Class 7A state championship behind the contributions of both players. Corey had 45 receptions as a senior and scored six receiving touchdowns.
He became good friends with the son of former NFL player Dan Graham, who was also a teammate on the Wheaton Rams, during their time spent playing tackle football together.
He made the decision to leave his family’s two-bedroom apartment at the end of his junior year and move in with the Grahams, who would eventually take on the role of Davis’ legal guardians. Later in his senior year, Davis finally started to receive scholarship offers.
Davis’s first three years of high school were marred by academic difficulties. The Grahams invested in a private tutor so he could improve his grades and apply for a college athletics scholarship. After high school, Davis accepted the only Division I scholarship offer he received and decided to play collegiate football at Western Michigan University.
