The New York Jets have given reserve/future contracts to tight end Lawrence Cager. These contracts are for players who are not currently on the active roster of a team and do not become valid until the first day of the new league year, which is March 16.
Cager, who is 6 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 220 pounds, first joined the Green and White in May of 2020 as an undrafted free agency-wide receiver out of the state of Georgia.
He was cut on September 5, 2020, and signed to the practice squad the next day. He was added to the team’s active roster on September 26 for their week 3 game against the Indianapolis Colts. After the game on September 28, he was put back on the practice squad.
He participated in two preseason games and had two receptions for 35 yards while on the team’s practice squad during the previous year (one start). On offense, he was responsible for 39 snaps.
Cager, who started his collegiate career at Miami, did not make the team’s final roster this past summer and did not join the practice squad until October 4th.
In 33 games split between the Hurricanes and the Bulldogs, he amassed a total of 78 receptions, 1,157 yards, and 14 touchdowns.
