Born on May 27, 1997, Daniel Stephen Jones III is an American football quarterback for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL).
He played college football at Duke and was selected sixth overall by the Giants in the 2019 NFL Draft.
In Charlotte, North Carolina, Jones went the Charlotte Latin School. He accumulated 6,997 throwing yards and 98 touchdowns during his time in high school.
Despite these figures, Jones had very little scouting after graduating from high school and was not listed on Rivals.com.
Jones decided to play walk-on football at Duke University after initially committing to play college football at Princeton University.
After sitting out his freshman year at Duke in 2015, Jones started as the starting quarterback in 2016 when Thomas Sirk sustained a season-ending injury.
All 12 of Jones’ games were starts, and he completed 270 of 430 passes (62.8%) for 2,836 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.
He completed 230 of 413 passes (55.7%) as a junior in 2017, going for 2,439 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Jones was selected as the game’s MVP after going 27 of 40 for 252 passing yards and two touchdowns against Northern Illinois in the 2017 Quick Lane Bowl.
He also gained 86 rushing yards on 16 carries for one score. Jones won the 2018 Independence Bowl MVP award during his senior season after going 30-41 with 423 passing yards and five touchdowns in a 56-27 victory over Temple.
Later, he participated in the 2019 Senior Bowl for the North team and won MVP honors after completing 8 of 11 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown.
