Taylor Heinicke is a quarterback with the National Football League’s Washington Commanders. He stands 1.85 m tall and weighs 95 kg. He attended Collins Hill High School, where as a junior he was chosen as an all-state player after leading Collins Hill to a 10-4 record and a trip to the Class AAAAA semifinals.
As a senior, he won Georgia’s Old Spice National Player of the Year award, which is given to 50 varsity football players from high schools. He obtained an athletic scholarship in 2011 to attend Old Dominion University (ODU), where he played football for the Old Dominion Monarchs team from 2011 to 2014.
He was ranked among the top 10 FBS quarterbacks in 2013 based on his passing yardage, passing yards per contest, and touchdown passes. Heinicke joined the Minnesota Vikings on a non-drafted free agent contract after being passed over as a draft pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was added to the New England Patriots’ practice squad in September 2017, however he was released in October.
In November 2017, he signed up for the Houston Texans practice squad. In April 2018, the Carolina Panthers claimed him off waivers. In December 2020, upon his signing with the team, Heinicke joined the Washington Commanders football team.
