He graduated from East Feliciano High School and played college football for Southern University’s Southern Jaguars. He received an invitation to the 2018 Senior Bowl in 2018, making history as the first athlete from his school to do so in 20 years.
Additionally, he took part in the 2018 NFL Combine. The Washington Commanders signed Johnson to an undrafted free agency deal after he was not taken in the 2018 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut in the Redskins’ 24-6 victory in the season opener, returning a kick 24 yards.
In order to begin the 2019 season while recovering from his injury, he was put on the physically unable to perform list on December 19, 2018, and was later placed on injured reserve. On December 10, 2019, he was put into service. On December 24, 2019, he was placed on injured reserve after beginning just two of the games.
On March 23, 2021, he re-signed with the organization, however in August of that same year, he was released and the following day, he rejoined the practice squad. Oct. 20, 2021 saw his addition to the active roster. On March 31, 2022, he renewed his contract with the Commanders. He was signed to the practice squad the following day after being waived on August 30, 2022. On October 25, 2022, he was once more elevated to the active roster.
