Born November 19, 1993, Justin Simmons is an American football free safety for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL).
Concerning his college career, he participated in each of the Eagles’ 12 games in 2012 as a freshman. He started one game at cornerback and six games at free safety. With 52 tackles, he finished seventh on the team, and he shared the team lead with two forced fumbles.
He participated in all 13 games as a sophomore in 2013, finishing with 34 tackles, 22 solo tackles, and three pass break-ups. As a junior in 2014, he made all 13 starts, spending the first seven at free safety and the latter six at right cornerback as the team suffered injuries.
He led the club in tackles during the season with 76, including 63 solo stops and two interceptions. He had five pass breakups for the team’s second-best total. He received the Jay McGillis Memorial Scholarship Award prior to the 2015 campaign.
Simmons competed at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis and set a 2006-era best time for the 20-yard shuttle (3.85s) (3.81s). With a time of 10.84 seconds, he also tied Braxton Miller for the fastest 60-yard shuttle since 2014 (10.72).
He also placed second overall in the three-cone drill and had the fastest time in the 60-yard shuttle. Simmons took part in Boston College’s pro day on March 16, 2016, but opted to stand on most of his combined performance times and just run the 40-yard dash (4.53s), 20-yard dash (2.62s), and 10-yard dash (1.56s).
On March 5, 2021, the Broncos placed the franchise tag on Simmons for a second consecutive season. He signed a four-year, $61 million contract extension with the team on March 19, 2021.
