When Corliss Waitman was born, his father José Waitman was playing professional basketball in Belgium.
Corliss spent his early years in the Netherlands after the family relocated there. He joined his father in the United States when he was 15 years old. In high school, Waitman moved from soccer to football.
From 2014 until 2018, Waitman played collegiate football for South Alabama. He changed schools to Mississippi State University in February 2019. Waitman, however, was not permitted to play college football in 2019 since the NCAA refused him an additional year of eligibility.
On April 28, 2020, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed undrafted free agent Waitman. On September 5, 2020, he was released and later re-signed to the practice squad. On January 14, 2021, he signed a reserve/future contract. On May 3, 2021, he was released.
The Denver Broncos picked up Waitman off waivers on January 17, 2022. Additionally, the Edmonton Elks selected Waitman in the third round (number 20 overall) of the 2022 CFL Global Draft.
On August 29, 2022, veteran punter Sam Martin was dismissed, and Waitman was appointed the Broncos’ starting punter.
Waitman won the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 3 after making 10 punts, six of which were inside the 20-yard line in an 11-10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Waitman is a football punter for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL).
