Harrison Butker is often nicknamed Butt Kicker (a play on words on his last name and position). He is an American football kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL).
Butker attended The Westminster Schools, where he participated in football as a rising sophomore after taking up the sport. He kicked a field goal that was 53 yards further than the previous school record.
He participated in basketball, football, and soccer as a three-sport athlete, earning three state soccer titles. He also served as the first-chair tuba player for the school’s (upperclassman) symphonic band all four years.
After Cairo Santos was placed on injured reserve on September 26, 2017, Butker was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs off the Panthers’ practice squad.
Butker kicked the winning field goal in his first game against the Washington Redskins on October 2, 2017. Butker made all three of his extra point attempts and all five of his field goal attempts in the following game against the Houston Texans.
Butker hit a 51-yard field goal and all four extra point attempts in the Chiefs’ Week 1 victory over the Arizona Cardinals despite playing through an ankle injury.
He was declared out because of an ankle injury the day before the Chiefs’ Week 2 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers. He did not play in the Chiefs’ following four contests.
He surpassed the Chiefs franchise record for longest field goal for the second time (his previous record of 58 had been broken while he was sidelined) in his first game back from the injury against the Buffalo Bills with a 62 yard – goal.
