The Oakland Hill Country Club community were welcomed with a piece of gory news after a raging fire razed down the Oakland Hills Country Club.
The Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, Mich., which was founded in 1916, has hosted six U.S. Open tournaments and numerous star golfers, including Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
Multiple camera crews caught firefighters battling the blaze at the historic site in Bloomfield Township, Mich., a suburb of Detroit.
MLive.com reported that firefighters were dispatched to the club at 9:17 a.m. after bystanders smelled smoke in the area. More than a dozen fire departments eventually reported to the scene, where crews were still battling the fire into Thursday evening.
How did the Oakland Hills Country Club Fire Start?
According to the fire chief in Bloomfield Township John LeRoy, firefighters were dispatched about 9:17 a.m. on Thursday to a report of the smell of smoke in the clubhouse. Using thermal imaging cameras and inspection holes, Chief LeRoy said, they were able to find flames in the attic of the clubhouse.
The Officials also said in a statement that firefighters also found heavy fire inside the walls and between floors of the building.
No casualties were recorded. The clubhouse contained a rich collection of golf memorabilia, and it was unclear how much of that was saved, though firefighters and club staff members were able to recover some.
