Barry Rubin was born in Monroe on June 25, 1957. Louisiana is the National Football League’s Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Kansas City Chiefs.
He is a member of the Hall of Fame for Strength and Conditioning Coaches in the United States. He lettered three years in football (earning all-district honours as a running back and punter), baseball, and basketball, as well as twice in track and field. Rubin joined the LSU Tigers football team in 1976 as a running back and punter.
He was transferred to Northwestern State University after the 1977 season, where he was a punter and tight end, and obtained his B.A. in 1981. He played with future NFL stars Bobby Hebert, Mark Duper, Joe Delaney and Gary Reasons while there.
Rubin began coaching at Northeast Louisiana University as a graduate assistant in 1981. The following year, he was promoted to Assistant Strength Coach.
He was promoted to Strength Coach in 1984 and remained there until 1985. In 2010, he was named the Philadelphia Eagles’ Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
After Andy Reid was hired as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, he assumed the same responsibility for them. Rubin won Super Bowl LIV in 2019 with the Kansas City Chiefs, who defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20.
Rubin was named into the Hall of Fame of USA Strength and Conditioning Coaches in 2003. In 2014, he was elected to the Northwestern (La.) State Hall of Fame.
