Lou Anarumo (born August 18, 1966) is an American football defensive coordinator for the National Football League’s Cincinnati Bengals.

From 2004 to 2011, he was the defensive backs coach for the Purdue Boilermakers under Joe Tiller and Danny Hope, the Miami Dolphins from 2012 to 2017, and the New York Giants in 2018.

In the spring of 1990, Anarumo worked as a part-time running backs coach at Wagner before moving to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in the fall of 1990 to do the same.

Anarumo then transferred to Syracuse University, where he worked as a graduate assistant with the defensive backs under Phil Elmassian.

Anarumo subsequently went back to the Merchant Marines as the defensive coordinator before being appointed as an associate head coach and defensive backs coach at Harvard.

Anarumo visited old employer Joe Philbin, who was at the time the offensive line coach Harvard, at Harvard. After a brief stint at Marshall, Anarumo was hired to replace Elmassian at Purdue, where he remained until being hired by the Miami Dolphins in 2012.

On October 8, 2015, he was named the Miami Dolphins’ temporary defensive coordinator, succeeding Kevin Coyle, who was dismissed the same day. Following coaching changes following the 2015–16 season, he was reassigned to the defensive backs coach position under Adam Gase, who is now the head coach for the 2016–17 season.

Where is Lou Anarumo Now?

Cincinnati Bengals

On February 21, 2019, the Cincinnati Bengals hired Anarumo as their defensive coordinator.

Due to Steve Jackson’s absence for COVID-19 pandemic protocols, he took over as cornerbacks coach for the team’s weeks 11 and 12 games in 2020 against the Washington Football Team and the New York Giants.
