Who Is Bill Callahan?
William E. Callahan is an NFL offensive line coach for the Cleveland Browns (NFL). He is the Father of Cincinnati Bengals Offensive Coordinator, Brian Callahan.
For the 2002 and 2003 seasons, he was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders, leading them to Super Bowl XXXVII.
From 2004 to 2007, he was the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and from 2015 to 2019, he was the offensive line coach and interim head coach of the Washington Redskins.
In his final two seasons at Illinois Benedictine College in Lisle, Illinois, Callahan was an NAIA honorable mention All-American.
In 1978, Bill Callahan began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Oak Lawn Community High School and De La Salle Institute for two years.
Callahan began his college coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Illinois in 1980, before being elevated to full-time assistant in 1981, where he coached tight ends, offensive line, quarterbacks, and special teams until 1986.
He was the offensive line coach at Northern Arizona University for two years (1987–1988) and the offensive coordinator at Southern Illinois University for one year (1989).
Callahan coached the offensive line at the University of Wisconsin–Madison from 1990 to 1994.
Former Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez credited him as one of the main reasons the Badgers were able to turn around their program and win three Rose Bowls in the 1990s.
Callahan was singled out by Alvarez for his impressive recruitment skills.
