Who is Cionel Perez
Cionel Félix Pérez Viera is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. As an international free agent in 2016, he signed with the Houston Astros.
Perez debuted in the Major Leagues with the Astros in 2018. He’s also been a member of the Cincinnati Reds’ roster.
Pérez spent two seasons with the Cuban National Series team Matanzas. He signed a $5.15 million contract with the Houston Astros as an international free agent in September 2016.
In October, the contract was nullified because of a problem with his physical health. He signed a new contract with the Astros worth $2 million in December.
As a member of the Quad Cities River Bandits, Pérez made his professional debut in 2017. The Buies Creek Astros and Corpus Christi Hooks selected him on their rosters later that season.
A total of 21 games (16 starts) were played between the three teams, with a 4.13 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP for a 6-4 record. After the season, the Astros decided to make him a permanent part of their 40-man roster.
During the month of July 2018, Perez made his MLB debut.
