J.B. Bukauskas went to Ashburn, Virginia’s Stone Bridge High School. As a freshman, he assisted Stone Bridge in winning both the regular season and the district championship.
On July 7, 2012, Bukauskas announced his commitment to the University of North Carolina, which he described as his “dream school.”
He was chosen first-team All-Met as a sophomore. During the summer following his sophomore year, Bukauskas reclassified in order to graduate and attend North Carolina a year earlier.
He was selected the 2014 All-Met Baseball Player of the Year after going 7-0, striking out 88 hitters, and without allowing an earned run. Bukauskas graduated from high school with a 21-3 record, 264 strikeouts, and a 0.88 ERA.
Bukauskas was dealt with the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 31, 2019, for Zack Greinke (along with Corbin Martin, Seth Beer, Joshua Rojas, and monetary considerations).
He was sent to the Jackson Generals and spent the rest of the season with them. He was 2-5 with a 5.44 ERA in 22 games (16 starts) between the two organizations. Bukauskas was added to the 40-man roster on November 20, 2020.
Bukauskas got promoted to the top leagues for the first time on April 18, 2021. He made his MLB debut on April 20 against the Cincinnati Reds, striking out the only hitter he faced, Nick Senzel.
