Andrew Heaney’s Career with the Los Angeles Angels
As part of the trade for Dan Haren, Dee Gordon, and Miguel Rojas that took place on December 10th, 2014, the Miami Marlins sent Heaney to the Los Angeles Dodgers along with Chris Hatcher, Austin Barnes, and Enrique Hernández.
Later that day, he was traded for Howie Kendrick by the Los Angeles Angels. After a brief time with the Dodgers, Heaney tweeted his gratitude, writing: “We had a good run, @Dodgers! Being a member of such a legendary franchise is an honor. #thanksforthememories”.
Heaney was called up after the Angels’ starting rotation was decimated by injury. In 105 innings, he was 6-4 with a 2.79 strikeout-to-walk ratio with the Angels.
Heaney was a member of the Angels’ starting rotation on Opening Day in 2016. Heaney exited the game after six innings and four runs allowed in his lone start.
When Heaney felt pain in his elbow after the game, he was put on the disabled list right away.
Heaney was sidelined for six weeks beginning on April 30 after receiving a platelet rich plasma injection into his left elbow.
As of June 28, Heaney’s elbow has not improved, resulting in an even longer delay in his return to action. Heaney had Tommy John surgery on July 1 and was out for the rest of the season.
A 6.00 ERA in six innings would be Heaney’s final ERA for the 2016 season. In 2017, he went 1–2 with a 7.06 ERA in 21.2 innings pitched.
