A one-year deal with Andrew Heaney was announced by the Los Angeles Dodgers. This was their first acquisition in free agency this season. According to media reports, Heaney’s contract is for $8.5 million.
The Dodgers signed him to a one-year contract even though he had another below-average season under his belt.
Heaney’s signing is a reunion for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who previously acquired him from the Miami Marlins in a deal in December 2014.
Despite this, Heaney’s stint with the team was short-lived, as he was moved to the Los Angeles Angels for Howie Kendrick shortly after his arrival.
Even when Heaney was traded to the New York Yankees at the deadline this year, he remained an Angel. In 30 appearances, the left-hander was 8-9 with a 5.83 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP (23 starts).
As expected, Heaney struggled to make an impact in the Yankees starting rotation and was sent to the bullpen.
As a result, the Yankees optioned Heaney to their Rookie Level affiliate at the end of September, and he was not with the team for the playoffs.
The first week of October saw Heaney designated for assignment and he chose free agency rather an outright Minor League assignment.
With the Marlins, Angels and Yankees, his career record is 32-28 with an ERA of 4.72, 6.93 FIP, and 1.35 WHIP in 121 games (112 starts).
