James Jacob Nelson was born on June 5, 1989, he is an American Major League Baseball pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB). He was previously with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Nelson was picked in the 39th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft by the Cincinnati Reds out of Niceville High School in Niceville, Florida, but did not sign and instead attended the University of Alabama.
In his junior year of 2010, he finished 9-3 with a 4.01 ERA in 18 games (17 starts). He was then picked in the second round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Nelson began the 2013 season as a member of the Double-A Huntsville Stars. On June 5, he was promoted to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. On September 3, he was promoted to the majors, made his debut on September 6, and made his first major league start on September 28.
Prior to the 2014 season, Baseball America ranked Nelson as the Brewers’ top prospect and the 96th greatest prospect in baseball. Nelson returned to Triple-A Nashville in 2014, where he dominated the Pacific Coast League with a 10–2 record, 1.46 ERA, and 114 strikeouts. Nelson was even selected PCL Pitcher of the Year in 2014.
