Who is Evans Phillips?
Evan John Phillips is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has played for the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, and Tampa Bay Rays in Major League Baseball.
Phillips graduated from Clayton High School in Clayton, North Carolina, and was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 33rd round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft.
He chose not to sign with the Royals and instead attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to play college baseball.
As a result of his outstanding play, he was selected 17th overall by the Atlanta Braves in the 2015 MLB Draft.
Phillips pitched 29.2 innings in relief for the Danville Braves and Rome Braves in his debut professional season, finishing 2-3 with a 2.73 ERA.
As a relief pitcher in 2016, he had a combined record of 8-4 and 3.02 ERA in 43 appearances for the Carolina Mudcats and Mississippi Braves throughout the season.
As a pitcher, Phillips spent the majority of 2017 with Mississippi and the Gwinnett Braves, finishing 3-4 with a 6.14 ERA in 51.1 innings of work.
On June 23, 2018, the Atlanta Braves called up Phillips. On June 25, he rejoined the Stripers, having not played in a major league game.
He was called up to the big leagues on July 2 and made his debut the following day. In his first appearance, he allowed a home run in 2+1/3 innings of work.
