Zach was born on April 29, 1995, in Toledo, Ohio in the United States. He is the second born of his parents. He started playing baseball back in high school. He was at North Side High School located in Fort Wayne in Indiana.
When he graduated from high school, he gained admission to attend the University of Michigan where he played college baseball for the Central Michigan University Chippewas. In 2016, he played for the Waterloo Bucks of the Northwoods League and the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League.
Zach signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016 after he was selected in the 33rd round of the 2016 MLB draft. He then began his professional career by playing in four games for the Arizona League Dodgers of the minor league baseball
Zach was called up to the major leagues twice in 2020. He finally made his MLB debut in September 2020 when the Dodgers played against the San Diego Padres.
