The Dominican Republic-born, Brailyn Marquez made his major league debut with the Chicago Cubs on September 27, 2020.
Márquez signed as an international free agent with the Chicago Cubs in August 2015. In his first professional season, he went 4–2 with a 1.48 ERA in 12 starts with the Dominican Summer League Cubs in 2016.
Márquez pitched for the Arizona League Cubs in 2017, going 2–1 with a 5.52 ERA in 11 games (nine starts), before moving on to the Eugene Emeralds and South Bend Cubs in 2018, going 1–4 with a 3.13 ERA in 12 appearances.
Márquez began the season with the South Bend Cubs and was later moved to Myrtle Beach. He finished 9–5 with a 3.13 ERA in 22 starts for the two teams, striking out 128 batters in 103+23 innings.
On September 27, 2020, Márquez was added to the Cubs’ 40-man and active rosters. He made his MLB debut that night, tossing a third of an inning of relief against the Chicago White Sox.
Due to prolonged spring training, a COVID-19 outbreak, and a left shoulder injury, Márquez missed a development season in 2021.
