Daniel was born on April 25, 1993, in Johnson City, Tennessee in the USA. He started his professional career in 2011 after he was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2011 MLB Draft. He made his professional debut the following year with the Rookie-Advanced Bluefield Blue Jays and Low-A Vancouver Canadians.

During the 2013 minor league season, Daniel played for both the Class-A Lansing Lugnuts and High-A Dunedin Blue Jays. In 2014, Baseball America ranked him the 25th overall prospect in baseball. The Blue Jays traded him in July 2015 to the Detroit Tigers and in January 2021, the Tigers signed a one-year contract worth $3.475 million with him to avoid salary arbitration. The Tigers traded him to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021 and in March 2022, Daniel signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs.
