In December 2019, the Baltimore Orioles selected Michael in the 2019 Rule 5 draft but he was returned to the Cubs in March 2020. The 2020 minor league season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic thus he did not play a minor league game that season.

Michael made his MLB debut in July 2021 after he was promoted to the major leagues.
