Willson Eduardo Contreras, simply referred to as Willson Contreras is a professional baseball catcher of Venezuelan descent who is currently in the major leagues and plays for the Chicago Cubs baseball team of the Major League Baseball(MLB). Willson has a height and weight of 1.85 m and 95 kg respectively.
Willson grew up in Venezuela where he was born on May 13, 1992. His parents are William and Olga Contreras. In 2009, the Chicago Cubs signed him to their team as an international free agent after which he immediately made his professional debut playing with the Dominican Summer League Cubs of the minor league baseball.
During the 2013 minor league season, Willson played with the Kane County Cougars and he spent the 2014 and 2015 minor league seasons with the Daytona Cubs and the Tennessee Smokies. The Cubs named him their Minor League Player of the Year in 2015.
When the 2015 season ended, the Cubs added Willson to their active 40-man roster. He was promoted to the major leagues for the first time in 2016 and in April 2017, he made it to the Cubs’ opening day roster.
