Matthew Robert Boyd (born February 2, 1991) is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the San Francisco Giants (MLB). He has played for the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers in Major League Baseball.
He was a baseball player for Oregon State University in college. Boyd was taken in the sixth round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft by the Blue Jays. In 2015, he made his MLB debut with the Blue Jays.
Boyd began the season with the Class-A Lansing Lugnuts, where he pitched 14 innings with a 0.64 earned run average before being promoted to the Advanced-A Dunedin Blue Jays, where he finished the season.
At 10 innings thrown in Dunedin, he had a 0–2 record and a 5.40 ERA. Boyd earned a promotion to the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats after pitching 902/3 innings with Dunedin in 2014, with a 5–3 record, 1.39 ERA, and 103 strikeouts.
Boyd was dealt to the Detroit Tigers on July 30, 2015, along with Daniel Norris and Jairo Labourt, for David Price. He was sent to the Toledo Mud Hens at the Triple-A level.
On August 5, the Tigers recalled Boyd. Boyd had a 9–2 record and a 1.65 ERA in 19 starts between Double-A New Hampshire, Triple-A Buffalo, and Toledo before getting recalled.
The San Francisco Giants have signed Matt Boyd to a one-year, $5,200,000 deal. He will be paid an average of $5,200,000 each year.
