Anthony played baseball in high school at Colts Neck High School in New Jersey. He then played college baseball for the Florida Gators baseball team at the University of Florida. In 2010, he played collegiate summer baseball in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox whiles still in college.
The Toronto Blue Jays chose him in the sixth round of the 2011 MLB draft. He agreed to play for them and signed with them for a $250,000 signing bonus. After the 2012 baseball season, he was traded to the Miami Marlins.
The Marlins promoted him to the major leagues in May 2014 where he made his MLB debut after he was ranked by Baseball America as the Marlin’s 5th best prospect. The Marlins later traded him to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for another player in December that year.
The San Francisco Giants December 2020 signed Anthony to a one-year contract of $6 million. In November 2021, the Giants and Anthony re-signed a 3- year contract worth a $36 million contract.
