Samuel Trenton Long (born July 8, 1995) is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the San Francisco Giants (MLB). He is 26 years old. He attended California State University, Sacramento, where he played baseball in college.
In 20 appearances for the Low-A Hudson Valley Renegades and the Single-A Bowling Green Hot Rods in 2017, he has a 2.27 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 31.2 innings thrown. Long was released by the Rays organization on March 22, 2018, the last day of spring training.
Long, then 23, attended EMT lessons throughout the summer, thinking he may become a firefighter, instead of playing baseball, which he believed was not going to work out, and unsure of what he would do with his future.
In the fall, he returned to Sacramento State to finish his communications degree. Long, on the other hand, reconsidered his decision to retire from baseball and began getting back into shape by eating healthier and working out hard.
He returned to his natural over-the-top arm slot and noticed an improvement in velocity and a sharper curveball. His agency shared a highlight reel of him hurling his fastball at 93 mph on Twitter, which went viral. When a scout from the Chicago White Sox viewed the video, he called.
