Joey Bart, an American Major League Baseball catcher for the San Francisco Giants attended Buford High School in Buford, Georgia where he was chosen as the starting catcher for the school’s baseball team his freshman year.
He had a.556 on-base percentage and a.859 slugging percentage in his junior year, but he was thrown around by competing teams in his senior year, which harmed his performance.
In his senior year, Buford High School won the Georgia Class 4A State Championship, winning 34-2 and finishing ninth in the MaxPreps National Poll. The Tampa Bay Rays picked Bart in the 27th round of the 2015 MLB draft, but he declined to sign.
Bart got called up to the majors from one of the Giants’ other training facilities on May 4, 2021. Bart was optioned to AAA Sacramento two days later to begin the Triple-A season.
Due to Buster Posey’s hand injury on July 10, the Giants summoned Bart up again when he was batting over.335 with an OPS of over.980.
Bart batted eighth, catching Anthony DeSclafani, and went 2-5 with two hits and an RBI. Due to the MLB All-Star break, Bart was optioned back down to AAA Sacramento the next day.
