Curtis Michael Casali, born on November 9, 1988, and nicknamed Cas, is an American Major League Baseball catcher for the San Francisco Giants (MLB).
He attended Vanderbilt University and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the tenth round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft.
He debuted in the major leagues with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2014, and he has previously played for the Cincinnati Reds.
Casali grew up in New Canaan, Connecticut, but was born in Walnut Creek, California. He graduated from New Canaan High School.
He was a standout in baseball (batting.427 for the team), basketball, and football, where he led the team to a state title.
Casali was chosen first-team All-State in both football and baseball, and he was selected as the second-best prospect from Connecticut/Rhode Island in the June 2007 baseball draft.
Casali attended Vanderbilt University and played baseball there. He had a.316 batting average, .430 on-base percentage, .502 slugging percentage, 27 home runs, and 167 runs batted in during his four years at Vanderbilt (RBIs).
Casali and Vanderbilt advanced to the College World Series semifinals in 2011 but were defeated by Florida. In 2008, he played collegiate summer baseball for the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Hyannis Mets, and he returned to the league in 2010 to play for the Cotuit Kettleers.
