Evan Longoria is an American professional baseball third baseman for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball and formerly of the Tampa Bay Rays from 2008 through 2017.
He’s also noted for his acrobatic defense, winning three Gold Glove Awards at third base in 2009, 2010, and 2017. Longoria has several Rays franchise marks, including games played, runs, doubles, home runs, RBIs, walks, and Wins Above Replacement.
The Rays placed Willy Aybar on the injured list on April 12, 2008, and brought up Longoria from Triple-A Durham to replace him on the main league roster and the 40-man roster. That night, Longoria made his major league debut, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Longoria blasted his first professional home run on April 14 at Tropicana Field against the New York Yankees. On May 24, he hit the first two-homer game of his career and drove in six runs as the Rays defeated the Baltimore Orioles 11–4.
Long Beach State alumni Steve Trachsel hit both home runs for the Orioles. On July 19, 2008, Longoria hit his first career grand slam off Toronto’s Roy Halladay in the fifth inning as part of a 6–4 winning effort.
