Evan Michael Longoria, born on October 7, 1985, and nicknamed “Longo,” is a Major League Baseball third baseman for the San Francisco Giants (MLB).
He formerly played in Major League Baseball for the Tampa Bay Rays from 2008 to 2017. Longoria was the CSN Bay Area 2005 Cape Cod League MVP and the 2006 Big West Conference Co-Player of the Year for the Long Beach State University baseball team.
In the 2006 MLB draft, he was selected by the Rays in the first round as the third overall choice. He made his major league debut for the Rays in 2008 after two seasons in the minors and was chosen to the American League roster for the 2008 MLB All-Star Game.
Longoria’s father is of Mexican ancestry, while his mother is of Ukrainian ancestry. He went to St. Raymond Catholic School in Downey, California, where there was no baseball team. In Bellflower, California, he graduated from Saint John Bosco High School.
He was a two-year letterman in baseball and a first-team All-League pick as a senior. Longoria did not get any collegiate baseball scholarship offers.
The only program that considered him was the University of Southern California, but they finally dropped their interest in him.
Many baseball recruiters thought Longoria was too thin for NCAA Division I baseball standards at 6 feet 1 inch (1.85 m) and 170 pounds (77 kg).
As a result, he attended Rio Hondo Community College during his freshman year before being awarded a scholarship by Long Beach State.
