Spencer Robert Strider is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Atlanta Braves in the United States. In 2021, he made his MLB debut.
Strider was a student at Knoxville, Tennessee’s Christian Academy.
He was picked in the 35th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft by the Cleveland Indians, however he did not sign and instead played collegiate baseball for the Clemson Tigers.
He played collegiate summer baseball with the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Falmouth Commodores in 2018. Strider missed the whole 2019 season due to a torn UCL that necessitated Tommy John surgery.
In 2020, he rebounded from his injuries and was selected in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Atlanta Braves.
Strider played for the Augusta GreenJackets, Rome Braves, Mississippi Braves, and Gwinnett Stripers in his professional debut in 2021. He went 3–7 with a 2.64 ERA and 153 strikeouts in 94 innings throughout the four stops.
Strider was added to the Atlanta active roster on October 1, 2021.
That night, he made his major league debut against the New York Mets, pitching one inning of relief.
On the final day of the season, Strider recorded his first career win in relief against the Mets. The Braves won the NL East with an 88–73 record and went on to win the World Series in 2021, earning them their first title since 1995.
Strider was named to the Braves’ Opening Day roster in 2022.
