Dansby Swanson is an American professional baseball shortstop for the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB). The Arizona Diamondbacks selected him first overall in the 2015 MLB Draft.
Dansby who was born to former college athletes grew up in Kennesaw, Georgia, and eventually became an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Swanson was selected by the Colorado Rockies out of high school in the 38th round of the 2012 MLB Draft, but Swanson opted not to sign, instead of playing college baseball for the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Due to severe injuries, he couldn’t play in his freshman season but fortunately had a breakout sophomore season as Vanderbilt’s starting second baseman.
His college team, the Commodores won their first-ever national championship that season and Swanson was named the 2014 College World Series Most Outstanding Player.
The subsequent year was a good one for Dansby as he was awarded the Brooks Wallace Award for the best collegiate baseball player since he shifted back to shortstop in 2015.
