Ryan Helsley MLB Career
The Johnson City Cardinals signed Helsley, who made his professional debut and pitched the entire 2015 season there, posting a 2.01 ERA in 40+13 innings.
In 2016, he pitched for the Peoria Chiefs and was named a Midwest League All-Star after going 10-2 with a 1.61 ERA in 17 starts.
With the Palm Beach Cardinals, Helsley started the year with an 8-2 record and a 2.69 earned run average, but he was promoted to the Springfield Cardinals in July after making 16 starts in 17 appearances.
While in Springfield, he had a 3-1 record and a 2.67 ERA in six appearances. He also made a single appearance for the Memphis Redbirds towards the end of the year.
For his efforts that year, he was voted the best pitcher in Florida. Helsley started the season with Springfield but was later promoted to Memphis.
His season was cut short in June due to shoulder fatigue. He had a 3–2 record and a 4.39 ERA in seven games for Springfield, a 2–1 record and a 3.71 ERA in five starts for Memphis.
After the 2018 season, the Cardinals included Helsley on their 40-man roster.
Memphis welcomed back Helsley in the new year.
He was called up to the majors for the first time on April 16. During that game, he made his major league debut, pitching two and a third innings of relief and going 1-for-2 at the plate.
After being activated on July 3 and being placed on the disabled list on June 13 due to right shoulder impingement, Helsley was reassigned to Memphis.
St. Louis brought up Helsley for the final time on August 4, and he spent the rest of the season in the bullpen.
Helsley went 2–0 with a 2.95 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 36+2/3 innings of bullpen work with the Cardinals.
Helsley had an 8-strikeout performance in the postseason that year, pitching 5 13 innings with no earned runs.
