A Cuban professional baseball pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball, Johan Oviedo (born March 2, 1998) is a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Oviedo signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as an international free agent on July 2, 2016, and he was assigned to the DSL Cardinals the following day. In 2017, he played for the Johnson City Cardinals and the State College Spikes, splitting the season between both.
In 2018, he was promoted to the Peoria Chiefs, where he would play for the remainder of the season. He then played for the Springfield Cardinals for the 2019 season.
After being assigned to the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds to begin the 2020 season, Oviedo was reassigned to the newly established 60-man player pool as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which prevented Minor League Baseball from having a season that year.
Oviedo was promoted to the active roster on August 19, 2020, and he made his Major League Baseball debut the following day.
In five starts with the Cardinals, he went 0-3 with a 5.47 earned run average while striking out 16 batters over 24+2/3 innings.
