Reyes landed his first professional start in 2013 with the Appalachian League’s Johnson City Cardinals.
In 58+13 innings pitched, he was 6–4 with a 3.39 earned run average (ERA) and 68 strikeouts (SO) in 12 starts (IP).
Baseball America listed him as the Cardinals’ seventh-best prospect heading into the 2014 season. In addition, Baseball Prospectus ranked him as the 98th top prospect in the game.
He spent the 2014 season with the Midwest League’s Single-A Peoria Chiefs. He had a 7–7 record with a 3.62 ERA and 137 strikeouts in 109+13 innings there.

Baseball America ranked Reyes as the 51st-best prospect in all of professional baseball prior to the start of the 2015 season, while Baseball Prospectus placed him 55th.
Reyes was voted the Cardinals’ top prospect for 2015 by Jim Callis, and despite not making MLB.com’s top 100, he was named the best pitching prospect not on that list.
Reyes rose to a height of 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) as a result of a late growth spurt and began throwing at speeds of up to 100 mph (160 km/h) in Class-A.
Reyes earned the Minor League Pitcher of the Month in April 2015 for the Class A-Advanced Palm Beach Cardinals of the Florida State League (FSL).
He led the FSL with 35 strikeouts and a 1.71 ERA in 20+13 innings pitched. On June 17, he set a season best with 13 strikeouts.
He had a 1.79 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 50+13 innings over his previous ten starts.
Reyes was selected to represent the World Team in the All-Star Futures Game on June 25 after leading all minor league pitchers with a strikeout-to-inning ratio of 13.4 (SO/9).
In 60+23 innings, he had a 2–5 record and a 2.08 ERA, striking out 90 batters and walking 30. He was also chosen to play in the FSL’s mid-season All-Star game in 2015.
