Tyler Alan O’Neill (born June 22, 1995) is a Canadian professional baseball left fielder for the Major League Baseball St. Louis Cardinals (MLB). On April 19, 2018, he made his MLB debut.
He has represented Canada in international competition, capturing a gold medal at the Pan American Games in 2015. O’Neill weighs 210 pounds (95 kg), measures 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m), and throws and bats right-handed.
On July 21, 2017, O’Neill was purchased by the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for pitcher Marco Gonzales and sent to the PCL’s Memphis Redbirds.
O’Neill had a combined.246 hitting average, 31 home runs, and 95 RBIs in 130 games between Tacoma and Memphis in 2017.
O’Neill is a pianist who entertained his teammates in the clubhouse during spring training in 2017 by playing the “Lord of the Rings” film series theme song on a keyboard. “O Canada,” he says, is his favorite tune to play.
O’Neill, an ardent weightlifter, has been seen on camera quarter-squatting as much as 585 pounds (265 kg). While playing in the Southern League, he was given the nickname “Popeye.”
Terry O’Neill, O’Neill’s father, was named Mr. Canada (the nation’s top bodybuilder) in 1975. Stephanie O’Neill and O’Neill got married in Hawaii in December 2021, the couple does not have any children at the moment.
