How Much Does Jacob deGrom Make?

Jacob deGrom Makes an annual average salary of 33.5 million USD

The New York Mets have a new owner who has proven a willingness to spend large sums of money on franchise players, and they are now in the first place.

If deGrom has an opt-out clause at the end of the 2022 season, could the Mets simply extend him to “Met for life” territory by spending a lot of money?

In response to a question regarding whether or not deGrom’s deal may be renegotiated, Mets owner Steve Cohen stated on Sunday: “I don’t think it’s the proper timing.”

Next season, DeGrom will earn $35.5 million according to his contract. Then there’s an option to leave.

A $32.5 million payment in 2023 and a club option for $32.5 million in 2024 are possible if the player decides to continue with the contract.

He turned 33 on Saturday and has a 31-21 record, a 1.91 earned run average (a plus-minus of 208) of 0.89 white-hot-to-red ratio, and 739 strikeouts in 556 innings since the start of 2018.

As of right now, he’s the favorite to win this year’s Cy Young Award, as he’s won two of the last three. There’s no denying his talent.

However, it makes sense for both the Mets and deGrom to remain on the sidelines for the time being. DeGrom’s leverage is at an all-time high right now.

If there were renegotiations, deGrom’s camp would certainly want to outpace Bauer’s annual salary of $40 million and $45 million.

Even more so, deGrom has been sidelined by injury in recent starts, and he’s in his 30s.

Why would an owner agree to a five-year, $225 million contract extension with him if he could be sidelined for two years due to injury or advancing age?

If the Mets aren’t willing to overpay for deGrom, why even bring up an extension? The market for him would swell to the point where it would be impossible to keep up.

The Dodgers’ ace has a 0.54 ERA, a 0.80 WHIP, 111 strikeouts, and only eight walks in 67 innings this season.

The New York Mets had a four-game lead in the NL East heading into Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
