Edwin Orlando Daz Laboy is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the New York Mets from Puerto Rico. He debuted in the major leagues in June 2016 with the Seattle Mariners, where he remained from 2016 to 2018.
Daz shattered the Mariners’ record for straight strikeouts and was named the team’s closer just two months after making his MLB debut.
He led the American League in saves with 57, was an All-Star, and was awarded AL Reliever of the Year in 2018. After the season, the Mariners traded him to the Mets.
Daz grew raised in Naguabo, Puerto Rico, in the Naguabo community. He began playing baseball at the age of seven, mostly as a center fielder.
