Who Is James McCann?
James Thomas McCann is a Major League Baseball catcher for the New York Mets in the United States. He was a member of the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox in the past.
He played college baseball at the University of Arkansas before beginning his professional career.
McCann has also played baseball for the US national team. He was named to the MLB All-Star Game in 2019 while playing for the White Sox.
McCann was born in Santa Barbara, California, on June 13th, 1990. Carla, McCann’s mother, had a torn amniotic sac throughout her pregnancy and was forced to stay in bed for the majority of the time.
She followed local sports teams during that time, particularly the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB).
McCann’s mother drove him to and from Little League Baseball games and tournaments after he was born, serving as his tee ball coach.
McCann used to play baseball with Jeff McNeil, a future MLB All-Star.
In Goleta, California, McCann went to Dos Pueblos High School. McCann was taken in the 31st round of the 2008 MLB draft out of high school, but he declined to sign and instead chose to attend Arkansas University.
In November of 2014, McCann married his wife, Jessica. They are currently based in Nashville, TN. In December 2017, the couple had their first child, twins.
He enjoys hunting and takes part in an annual preseason duck hunt near Carlisle, Arkansas, along the Mississippi flyway.
McCann is a devout Christian who told a reporter in 2017 that he does not consume alcohol since it is “poison” to an athlete’s body.
