Tomás E. Nido Vicéns is a professional baseball catcher from Puerto Rico who currently plays for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB). In 2017, he made his MLB debut.
Nido grew up in Oviedo, Florida, after being born in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. His mother, Liana Vicens, was an 11-year-old swimmer who competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics, and his father, Tomás Nido Sr., earned a tennis medal in the 1982 Central American and Caribbean Games.
\He is also the grandson of Enrique Vicéns, a former player of the Puerto Rico national basketball team. The New York Mets selected Nido in the eighth round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft.
Rather than signing with the Mets, he elected to attend Florida State University. He earned the league’s hitting title with a.320 average while playing for the St. Lucie Mets in the Class A-Advanced Florida State League in 2016.
Nido began the 2017 season with the Class AA Eastern League’s Binghamton Rumble Ponies. On September 13, he made his major league debut against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
