Luis Miguel Castillo is a pitcher with the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB). In 2017, he made his MLB debut.
Castillo was an international free agent when he joined the San Francisco Giants in December 2011. Along with the DSL Giants, he made his major league debut in 2012, finishing 1–3 with a 3.31 ERA in 54.1 bullpen innings.
A year later, he made a comeback appearance with the Augusta GreenJackets, pitching to a 2-2 record with a 3.07 ERA over 48 bullpen appearances for them.
The Miami Marlins traded for Castillo on December 20, 2014. Casey McGhee was traded in exchange for Castillo.
For the whole of 2015, he played for Greensboro. In July, he moved to Jupiter Hammerheads, where he played until August. His record was 6–6 in 35 games (16 starts) between the two teams.
He also had a 3.20 ERA. During a trade on July 29, 2016, the Marlins gave up Castillo to the San Diego Padres. They got Andrew Cashner, Colin Rea, and Tayron Guerrero instead.
The Miami Marlins acquired Dan Straily from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Luis Castillo on January 19th, 2017. It was his first All-Star Game appearance, with a 15–8 record, 3.40 ERA, and 226 strikeouts.
By signing a $7.35 million contract with the Reds on March 22, 2022, Castillo avoided the risk of salary arbitration. He was second in MLB in defeats (16) and first in walks (75) for the National League.
