Joey Votto is a Canadian-American professional baseball first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut with the Reds in 2007.
For the first time since Larry Walker in the 1970s, a Canadian MLB player has hit 300 home runs and driven in 1,000 runs in his career (RBIs). Votto is also the second Canuck to reach the 2,000-hit plateau.

At Richview Collegiate Institute in 1997, Votto began his high-school career. Along with baseball, he was a standout point guard in both basketball and hockey in high school, scoring a career-best 37 points in one game. He was a baseball player for the Etobicoke Rangers.
