Spencer Ketcham Turnbull (born September 18, 1992) is an American Major League Baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers (MLB). In 2018, he made his MLB debut. Turnbull pitched a no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners on May 18, 2021.
Turnbull attended Madison Central High School in Madison, Mississippi, and the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team.
In 2013, he was named Alabama’s top starting pitcher. Following the 2013 season, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Wareham Gatemen.
Turnbull recorded the eighth no-hitter in Tigers history against the Seattle Mariners on May 18, 2021, earning nine strikeouts and two walks in a 5–0 victory. It was the Tigers’ first no-hitter since Justin Verlander’s in 2011.
Turnbull was placed on the injured list on June 5, 2021, with a right forearm strain, and was moved to the 60-day disabled list on July 7 after a setback in his recuperation.
Turnbull stated on July 20, 2021, that he will have Tommy John surgery, therefore terminating his season. In nine games with Detroit in 2021, he was 4–2 with a 2.88 ERA.
Unfortunately, there is no information indicating that Spencer Turnbull has children, so it is assumed that the professional baseball pitcher has no children.
