Tucker Jackson Barnhart (born January 7, 1991) is an American Major League Baseball catcher for the Detroit Tigers (MLB). He formerly played for the Cincinnati Reds in Major League Baseball. He debuted in Major League Baseball in 2014 and earned the Gold Glove Award in 2017 and 2020.
Barnhart was born in Indianapolis, the son of Kevin and Pam Barnhart and Paige’s younger brother. Tucker’s family relocated to Brownsburg, Indiana, west of Indianapolis when he was 11 years old.
He attended Brownsburg High School and was a member of the baseball team. He hit.500 as a junior in 2008 and was chosen to the Louisville Slugger High School All-American squad.
Barnhart started 67 games at catcher for the Reds in 2015 and 108 games in 2016 due to Mesoraco’s injury. Barnhart signed a four-year contract deal with the Reds worth $16 million, including a $7.5 million club option for the 2022 season, on September 22, 2017.
He topped all catchers in the National League in both wins above replacement and caught stealing percentage. He was also the major league leader in runners caught stealing. He received his first Gold Glove Award following the 2017 season.
