Ian Thorpe is an Australian retired swimmer who specialised in freestyle but competed in backstroke and the individual medley too. He is the youngest Australian male(14years old) at the 1998 Perth World Championships in the 400metre freestyle.
He won five Olympic gold medals, the most won by any Australian along with fellow swimmer Emma McKeon.Thorpe was the most successful athlete at the 2000 Summer Olympics, held in his hometown of Sydney with three gold and two silver medals.
Ian Thorpe was born in a suburb in Sidney on the 13th of October, 1982. He is the younger brother to Graham and Alan Thorpe all of whom are sportsmen too. Ian came from a sporting family. During his very early years, Ian suffered an allergy to chlorine and won’t attempt swimming until a school carnival.
