She was the mother of four children, Cristian, who had just completed Marine boot camp, Jose, who was attending Texas State University, Lyliana, a sophomore in high school, and Alysandra, who was in seventh grade.
‘My Tia did not make it, she gave her life protecting the children in her classroom, I ask of you to remember my family, including all of her family, in your prayers, IRMA GARCIA IS HER NAME and she died a HERO,’ her nephew John tweeted.
‘She was much loved and will be greatly missed.’ For the 2018-19 Trinity University awards, she was nominated for Teacher of the Year.
Robb Elementary School, which has 600 children enrolled, is located 60 miles east of the Mexican border and 80 miles west of San Antonio, in the city of Uvalde, Matthew McConaughey’s hometown.
Parents were seen at the scene urgently searching for their children, while video from the chaotic incident showed cops coming on the school campus with firearms drawn.
One widely circulated video purports to show the alleged shooter approaching the school while gunshots can be heard in the distance.
