American pitcher Sean Robert Doolittle plays for the Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals. He had previously played for the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, and Oakland Athletics.

Doolittle, a first baseman and outfielder, was taken by the Athletics in the first round of the 2007 MLB Draft.

Doolittle was raised in New Jersey’s Tabernacle Township. He frequently went to the baseball field to practice because he lived close by. He was a pitcher in Babe Ruth baseball.

Doolittle excelled as a pitcher while attending Shawnee High School in Medford, New Jersey. Shawnee won a state title under Doolittle’s direction.

Doolittle was a first baseman and starting pitcher for the University of Virginia. He had held the Virginia pitcher record for career victories with 22, but Danny Hultzen has since surpassed him.

He participated in the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League’s summer collegiate baseball season in 2005. Doolittle was selected for the USA National (Collegiate) Baseball Team in 2005 and 2006.

Doolittle was selected by the Oakland Athletics as a first baseman and outfielder in the first round, with the 41st overall pick, of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft. On June 18, 2007, he made his professional debut. He was supposed to make his big league debut in 2009.

Doolittle was ranked eighth in Oakland’s minor system by Baseball America despite missing the majority of the 2009 season due to injury.

Doolittle has two knee operations, thus he missed the entire 2010 season while recovering. He was added to Oakland’s 40-man roster in the offseason of 2011 to avoid being selected in the Rule 5 draft.

Doolittle returned to throwing after more than two years away, making his professional debut in the Arizona instructional league in 2011.

After receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection last week, Doolittle, who had previously been placed on the 10-day IL due to an elbow sprain, will now be sidelined for at least another six weeks.
