During the first half of the season, he was 3-5 with a 3.17 ERA in 42 appearances for the Padres before being sent to the Cleveland Indians, along with fellow reliever Brad Hand, two days after the 2018 All-Star Game, in exchange for top prospect Francisco Mejia.
In 20 games for the Tribe, he had a 4.05 ERA and had two appearances in the ALDS loss to the Houston Astros.
After settling in Cleveland, he made 68 appearances in 2019, earning his first career save while pitching 56 2/3 innings with a 4.45 ERA.
In the truncated season of 2020, he made 14 appearances, going 0-1, 3.97, and pitching only 11 1/3 innings.
He got roughed up in his only postseason appearance, surrendering three runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning in a 12-3 defeat to the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series on September 29th.
After the season, he was designated for assignment on November 25th, and his contract was sold to the Miami Marlins on November 30th.
During the first three months of the 2021 season, he made 33 appearances for the Marlins, going 1-2 with a 2.88 ERA in 34 1/3 innings.
The Marlins, on the other hand, were having difficulties repeating their Cinderella season from the previous year, and it didn’t make sense to keep a senior middle reliever on the roster when a number of contending teams were searching for bullpen relief.
